Urban Water Prediction
We integrate high-resolution weather and climate products, hydrologic and hydrodynamic models, satellite remote sensing observations, and emerging innovations in big-data analytics (data assimilation, artificial intelligence and machine learning) to predict urban water flow, hazards and infrastructure needs for sustainable cities. Hydroclimatic Risk Analysis
We focus on advancing the predictive understanding of multiscale, multisector impacts, responses, and feedbacks of hydroclimatic extremes. We use methods from Earth science, engineering, and data science to explore multisector dynamics, vulnerability, and resilience to compound and cascading hazards. |
Infrastructure Planning Under Uncertainty Engineers and decision makers face nontrivial choices on how to design water infrastructure in the face of intensifying weather and climate extremes. Deep uncertainties surrounding projections of the coupled natural-human systems further complicate the situation. We explore adaptive risk management strategies that help build resilience across interdependent configurations of infrastructure, environmental, and socioeconomic systems. |
